Meet Sierra Burns, a Psychology Major with a Minor in Social Work.  As a sophomore in college, she plans to provide research as well as important insight into the foster care system. She feels fortunate to have the resources she now has and says that she is working for a brighter future for those who have gone through hardships that most children and youth do not experience.

Sierra says that struggling through most of her adolescence definitely her a “mouthful of problems” to deal with, but she turned a problem into opportunity!  She credits her past problems with the reason she has come so far in life.

Sierra has advocated for foster youth at bill hearings as well as advocating for foster youth with the DSS Youth Council as well as working closely with Pendleton Place. She told us she is proud of the person she has become. We are proud of you, too, Sierra! It is our honor to recognize you as a Striving for Excellence award recipient!  We can’t wait to watch you do great things!
